Windows Software Testing

WHQL Lab

Windows® 8 Operating System and Windows® RT Operating System includes the Windows® Store and a new app model that brings a Touch First experience to Windows, with support for Keyboards, Mice and Pens.

All apps for Windows® 8 & Windows® RT and that use the new Windows® Store app model are required to be certified by Microsoft before they can be listed and distributed via the Windows® Store. This certification process consists of technical tests that ensure the app is reliable, secure and performs at an acceptable level as well as content checks by Microsoft.

Testing your app with the same tests Microsoft performs prior to uploading to the Windows® Store will help identify common issues in your app before it is reviewed by Microsoft, thereby reducing unnecessary delays. For in-house enterprise apps not distributed via the Windows® Store, the tests will ensure that your app is compatible with Windows® 8 before deployment.

For apps that use the older Desktop environment, the Windows® 8 Desktop App Certification program aims to help customers make better purchasing decisions by identifying “Windows® 8 Compatible” products. For desktop software publishers looking to build on Windows® 8, the program provides partners increased visibility through marketing support, ability to list their desktop app on the Windows® Store and unrivaled tools to deliver products that users know “will just work” on Windows® 8.

Displaying the Windows® logo on your product and listing your app in the Windows® Store represents a relationship and a shared commitment to quality between Microsoft and your company. Customers trust that seeing the Windows® brand on your product, and seeing it in the Windows® Store, ensures that it meets compatibility standards and performs well on the Windows® platform.

Windows® is a trademark of the Microsoft group of companies.
